It was a very fruitful second day of testing at Circuit de Barcelona, again blessed by gorgeous weather, for the GT Cup Open Europe cars present. As expected, lap time improved with respect to yesterday, with gaps closing significantly.
At the end of the day, Guilherme Salas and Márcio Basso, at the wheel of the Mercedes AMG R of Sports&You, posted the best time in 1.51.209, half a second better than their time yesterday. The Brazilian duo impressed, topping 3 out the 4 sessions of the day. Still, they beat the VSR Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO of Edoardo Liberati, Hans-Peter Koller and Felipe Ortiz only by 0s041, with the Italian topping the third session. The Baporo Motorsport Audi R8 of Manel Cerqueda and Daniel Díaz-Varela was a close third-fastest, 0s299 behind.
The McLarens 570S of Teo Martín Motorsport continued their development work, with the two pairs of young drivers, Thiago Vivacqua-Marc De Fulgencio and Guillem Pujeu-Eliseo Martínez, also progressing steadily, while the Brazilian duo of the Three Sixty Gentleman squad, Fernando Fortes and Julio Carlos Martini, also made significant progress in familiarizing with their Mercedes AMG R.
With the completion of the Winter Test, the GT Cup Open Europe will continue preparing for the inaugural event of the series at Paul Ricard on 26-28 April.
