Glauco Solieri took his second win in the GT Cup Open Europe in today’s Race 2 at Spa, repeating a perfect strategic race, like he did at Paul Ricard in the Round 1. The Italian driver of the Antonelli Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan SuperTrofeo beat the EMG Motorsport Porsche of local hero John De Wilde, again on the podium, and the PZ Oberer Zürichsee Porsche 911 Cup of yesterday’s winner Niki Leutwiler, who retains the leadership in the championship overall standings.
A narrow fourth overall in a very entertaining race, Nicolas Vandierendonck and Bas Schouten, with the other EMG Porsche, won in Pro-Am ahead of the Curti brothers (Tsunami Porsche) and the Teo Martín Motorsport McLaren of De Fulgencio-Vivacqua.
THE RACE – No trouble at the start for Niki Leutwiler, who keeps the advantage of the pole and is a solid leader ahead of JP Mauro, Vivacqua, Beirão, Vandierendonck, Font and Solieri. Soon, Vivacqua will take second while De Wilde has climbed to P6 by lap 3.
The show and the emotion is in the battle for second, as Vivacqua has to sweat to keep at bay JP Mauro and Beirão. Eventually, both will pass the McLaren in lap 5, while also the other 570S of Pujeu is in big battle with the Porsche of Font.
In lap 9, the window for driver change opens in lap 9. After all pit stops, Leutwiler, Toni and Solieri found themselves together and fighting hard, which leads the Swiss to go wide and spin at Pouhon, leaving in command the two Lambos, with Solieri ahead, and third to De Wilde. Follow, in 5th, De Fulgencio, then Schouten and Basso.
Schouten will start a hard charge, passing De Fulgencio and finishing only 1 tenth behind Leutwiler for third, while a last-minute spin puts Toni in final P5, right ahead of Lino Curti and De Fulgencio.
