Fran Rueda signed a spectacular return to the GT Open by taking pole for Race 1 at the Red Bull Ring. The Spaniard, a double runner-up and 8-times race winner in the series, posted a time of 1.27.950 in the Teo Martín Motorsport McLaren 720 S shred with Marcelo Hahn. Alongside him in first row will be the Ferrari 488 (AF Corse APM Monaco) of young gun Louis Prette, only 0s358 behind.
Row 2 sees more surprises, with the debuting KTM X-BOW GTX Concept of Stefan Rosina (Reiter Engineering) and the RAM Racing Mercedes of Sam De Haan, both under a 0.5 seconds gap. In third row, Brendan Iribe with the McLaren of Optimum Motorsport and the other AF Corse APM Monaco Ferrari of Stéphane Ortelli, despite running wide into the gravel towards the end of the session.
In Am, Florian Scholze (GetSpeed Mercedes) took pole ahead of the Porsche of Niki Leutwiler, with the AKM Mercedes of Alex Moiseev in third. Unfortunately, one car was lost for the weekend, the Lechner Racing Mercedes of Plachutta-Jäger, following chassis damage sustained yesterday when jumping on a kerb.
