CryptoTower Racing Team's Yifei Ye claimed his fourth Euroformula pole position with a stunning lap in the first qualifying session at the Red Bull Ring.

The points leader had to be careful with track limits at several corners, after laptimes were frequently deleted in free practice for drivers running too wide, and Ye actually had the best laps of his first run deleted.

After making some tweaks in the pits, he returned to track and lowered the pace to a record 1m22.541s.

"Many fascinating fast corners, so it's always fun to drive in this Dallara 320," said Yes after claiming pole. "Qualifying was tough, but we managed to get pole position so happy about that, and hopefully we can do a good start this afternoon and try to bring home [the win]. P1 is the ultimate goal."

Van Amerfoort Racing's Andreas and Sebastian Estner battled over second place, which ultimately went to Andreas after the best laps of Sebastian were deleted and he was dropped to ninth.

Motopark will fill the second row of the grid for race one, with Niklas Krütten and Manuel Maldonado pushing each other to improve during the qualifying session. Krütten lines up in third, with Maldonado in fourth after he had to put in a late effort to make up for his earlier laps being deleted.

Carlin's Zane Maloney and Ido Cohen were next best, ahead of Double R Racing's Ayrton Simmons and VAR's Alexandre Bardinon who ended his session with a spin.

Drivex School's Glenn van Berlo and Shihab Al Habsi kept it clean to qualify 10th and 11th, while Ye's team-mate Rui Andrade props up the order after he had his best laptime from early in qualifying deleted.
